Providing Our Neighbors Shelter during Life’s Storms since 2024…

What

SAM | Shelter Area Meadville is a coalition of individual partners (volunteers), agencies, non-profits, faith communities, and government that works together to provide our neighbors in Meadville, Pennsylvania overnight shelter when it is too cold outside.

When

SAM | Shelter Area Meadville activates when temperatures are projected to drop to 25 ° Fahrenheit or below (based on the Weather.com Forecasted Low or Feel Like Temperature) between the hours of 8 pm to 8am.

SAM activates any evening that meets these parameters from November 15th through March 31st.

Determination of activation is made daily at Noon.

SAM | Shelter Area Meadville is located at 42184 Clinton Court, Meadville PA 16335.

This is the basement area of the Family, Children, & Community Association (FCCA).

Who

SAM | Shelter Area Meadville is staffed by Partners, who are adult volunteers who are trained and committed to the SAM mission of providing access to safe shelter from inclement weather.

How

SAM | Shelter Area Meadville is organized by a coalition of Meadville’s housing advocates. EUMA provides their experience with their Our Neighbors’ Place shelter program and institutional support, supplies and more. FCCA provides SAM with the space to activate. Trained and oriented partners commit to shifts using the Homebase app. If SAM is activated the Partners show up to hold space for any friends that need shelter.

Safety for our friends (guests), partners (volunteers) and neighbors is a core value.

We are trained volunteers that hold space for all people seeking refuge from dangerous and inclement weather.

Access to shelter for those seeking it.

Our primary service offering is shelter from the outdoors during extreme cold weather events.
